CHIA HUI GAO (Writer.Director.Producer)

Chia Hui grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. She studied Chinese painting in Tunghai University and her paintings have shown internationally and won top prizes in various competitions, including a Silver Maple Leaf Medal for Best New Talent at the international Painting Competition in Toronto, Canada. Gao started video and film making while studing her MFA at Tufts University, in affiliation with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her first experimental short film PLEASE EXCUSE MY DESIRE and her short video PEARL LIN both won Jury Awards in New York Expo Film Festival. PLEASE EXCUSE MY DESIRE also won a Bronze and an Audience Award in Austria Film Festival, and it was an official selection for Denmark International Film Festival, shown in the Boston Museum and at Emerson Film Festival. Her other short videos have been exhibited in various Soho, Brooklyn, Manhattan Galleries and on several cable TV stations.
Gao is developing her feature script SUE-LING (The Red Dragonfly) that tells a touching and original story about an Asian woman overcoming her abusive past while looking for her long lost sister in New York City.

Directors Note

JAY CHEN (Executive Producer)

Jay is a senior trader/fund manager at Berkeley Partners, a hedge fund based in Long Island. After graduation from Columbia University with a BS degree in Computer Science in 1995, Jay held investment banking and trading positions in Club Capital, BlackRock Financial Management, and Bear Stearns prior to joining Berkeley Partner in September 2001.

OLIVIER JANIN (Producer)

Olivier makes his production debut with BLUE FIRE. Olivier spent three years in London before transferring to New York City in November 1999 where he has been working in investment banking. He previously worked and lived in China and Taiwan. Olivier is French and graduated in management studies in Paris. As a cross-over for his keen interest in cultural studies and management background, Olivier has co-published a management treaty dealing with Asian-Western cross-cultural issues. In the art arena, Olivier has performed on several occasions at Carnegie Hall as a member of a symphonic chorus. Olivier is also an avid photographer.

MICHAEL A. WONG (Producer)


Michael has worked in the media industry since 1984. Trained as a journalist and musician, he started in print publishing where he was a writer, editor, and layout artist. He was present at the birth of desktop publishing and caught the multimedia revolution in 1986 when he started his long relationship with the Macintosh. During the mid 80s Michael was also editing the occasional video and acting in film and theater. An accomplished musician, Michael has recorded, performed, and made radio and television appearances. After stints in technical writing, programming, and advertising, Michael found his home at Apple Computer. He is currently an agent of change for the professional video products group at Apple and continues his work as a musician and filmmaker.

MINNEA LIN (Co-producer)

Minnea has worked on productrion crews for TV commericals, independent films, and documentaries in Chicago, Seattle and New York. After graduation from Brown University, she interned at 911 Media Arts, a non-profits digital media facility. She has worked as a writer for a multimedia company and has been a manager in an e-commerce ompany. She is working on a screenplay and living in New York City.

MITCH GROSS (Director of Photography)

Mitch has been working in the New York film industry for 12 years. With a BA from Northwestern University and an MFA from Columbia University, Mitch has photographed 13 feature films plus dozens of shorts subjects, documentaries, commerical and music videos. Recent clients include HBO, BBC-2 and BMG. In feature film works, VERTICAL CITY has been picked up by German TV, SIX is set to be distributed by FM Entertainmant and COLD FEET was released theatrically last year by Urban World Distribution. Recently, Mitch has photographed a season of cable series GALASCENE for the Calavision Network and was principle photographer on the feature film WEST BANK.

WINFRIED KRAUS (Composer )

Originally from Germany, Winfried Kraus attended Berklee College of Music to study filmscoring. Since 1995 he lives in New York City. He has composed music for TV ( ABC, CBS) as well as for theater. Furthermore he has been involved in production of various scores for feature films and TV series as an orchestrator (" Flawless", " Batman&Robin", "Frida", "Nero Wolf"). He is also a classical trained pianist - another reason why he enjoyed featuring the piano as the main instrument for the score to " Blue Fire".

Tom Calanni (Song Writer)

Throughout his three-decade career in composing, Thomas Calanni has continuted to paint vivid pictures with his music. His palette of differing musical styles infues passion into each original melody. As a music major at Kent State University, Calanni began his career writing music for the university's radio and television station. now in the recording studio, he can be found creating music CDs for radio and TV, commercial jingles for national companies, and original scores for film. As an Honorable Mention Winner in the 2001 "John Lennon Songwriting Competition, he received recognition for his composition entitled Baby Oscar's Song. From the scroe in the farcicial movie, Galactic Ninjas, to the three emotional love songs in the film, Blue Fire, Calanni's musical versatility is always evident. Currently, he's completing a three-part documentary score for PBS and providing music for a major Cleveland TV station (WEWS).
